As one of the few digitalized banks in the Philippines, UnionBank crafted an app that aims to be an all-around solution for everyone’s online banking needs. So to help you get started, here’s an extensive guide on how to do your banking using only your smartphone.

Because UnionBank invested heavily on digitalization, they have one of the most intuitive banking apps out there. You can do almost all banking transactions using their mobile app, from opening an account to managing your credit card transactions.

  • Open a bank account. Only a few banking apps in the Philippines let you open an account completely online, and the UnionBank Online Banking app is one of them.
  • Send and receive money. Just like any other online banking apps and digital wallets, the UnionBank app lets you send and receive money online. It even uses QR code technology for faster transactions.
  • Deposit UnionBank checks. No need to head to a UnionBank branch to deposit your checks. Just take a picture of it via the app and deposit from there.
  • Manage your credit card features. Track your monthly spend, lock your credit card, set a spending limit, and access other credit card features via the UnionBank app.
  • Pay your bills and buy load. Choose from over 50 billers and buy load from leading network providers in the Philippines.
  • Secure your account. You can choose between One-Time Password (OTP), biometric login, and UnionBank’s own OTP generator to secure your app.

You can either enroll through the desktop version[2] or the mobile app version. For the sake of convenience, let’s focus on the UnionBank app.

How to Enroll in UnionBank Online Banking

  1. Download the UnionBank Online Banking app from your app store.
  2. Open the app and tap Sign Up With My Existing Account.
  3. Skim through the terms and conditions and tap Accept.
  4. Tap the UnionBank account you have.
  5. On the next screen, enter the account details then tap Next.
  6. Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number then tap Submit.
  7. Enter your preferred username and password and tap Next.
  8. Complete the registration by entering your active email address and mobile number. Then tap Next.

How to Open a UnionBank Savings Account

  1. Open the UnionBank app and tap Open an Account.
  2. Tap Savings Account with Debit Card.
  3. Tap the savings account type you prefer.
  4. On the next screen, enter your basic information then tap Next.
  5. Enter the OTP sent to your number.
  6. Now enter your personal information on the next screen then tap Next.
  7. On the next screen, enter your financial information then tap Next.
  8. Tap the valid ID you want to submit and follow the in-app guide on how to properly take a picture of your ID.
  9. On the next screen, follow the guide on how to take a proper selfie.
  10. Next, put your signature on the space provided. Use a stylus if you have one.
  11. Review the card details and choose where you want it delivered then tap Next.
  12. Review all the details you provided and tap Submit.
  13. Open the email from UnionBank and activate your account from there. It will take at least 24 hours to fully activate your UnionBank account.

How to Use the UnionBank Online Banking App

Once your UnionBank savings account is activated, you can now unlock all the useful features of the UnionBank app. From sending money to paying your bills, you can do all your banking transactions at home using your smartphone.

How to Deposit Checks Using the UnionBank App

Note that the check deposit feature is currently exclusive to UnionBank checks.

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap Deposit a Check.
  2. Read the reminders on what your check should contain then tap Next.
  3. Place your check against a dark background and follow the in-app guide on how to take a picture of your check from front to back.
  4. On the next screen, enter the check details and choose the account you want to deposit to. After that, tap Next.
  5. Review the check and the check details one last time then tap Deposit.
  6. Wait for at least two (2) hours before checking your updated balance.

How to Send Money from UnionBank to UnionBank

The easiest way to transfer funds between UnionBank accounts is through the QR code feature.

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap the QR code icon on the top right.
  2. If you’re planning to send money to another UnionBank account, tap the Scan tab and scan the QR code of the recipient.
  3. Enter the amount you want to send, choose the account you want to send from, then tap Next.
  4. Review the transaction details then tap Transfer.
  5. If you’re planning to receive money from another UnionBank account, tap the Generate QR tab.
  6. You can enter the amount you want to request or just tap Generate QR.
  7. Show the QR code to the sender or send the QR code image file.

How to Send Money from UnionBank to Other Banks

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap Send/Receive at the bottom left.
  2. Tap Other Banks and choose either Instapay or PESONet. If you’re sending more than PHP 50,000, choose PESONet. Otherwise, choose Instapay for a quicker transaction.
  3. Choose the bank and provide the recipient’s details before tapping Next.
  4. Enter the amount you want to send and select a purpose then tap Next.
  5. Review the transfer details before tapping Transfer.

How to Pay Your Bills

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap Pay Bills at the bottom middle.
  2. Tap Select Biller and find your biller from the list of billers.
  3. Enter the biller information then tap Next.
  4. Choose the account you want to pay from.
  5. Enter the amount you want to pay and select the date of payment and tick the Repeat toggle if the bill is recurring. After that, tap Next.
  6. Review the transaction details and tap Pay.

How to Manage Your UnionBank Credit Card

You can also enroll your credit card to your UnionBank Online Banking app and manage your credit card transactions from there.

How to Lock Your UnionBank Credit Card

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap your credit card avatar.
  2. Tap Transactions Controls.
  3. Tap the Lock/Unlock toggle.
  4. To finalize the process, tap Lock.
  5. Wait for the notification to confirm the changes.

How to Access Online Shopping Features

  1. From the UnionBank app dashboard, tap your credit card avatar.
  2. Tap Transactions Controls.
  3. Tap Online and access the online shopping features.
  4. If you don’t want to use your credit card for online shopping, tap the Disable all online purchases toggle.
  5. To set a spend limit for online transactions, tap the Spend limit toggle and enter the spend limit amount.
  6. To set a time restriction for online transactions, tap the Set time restriction toggle and set the time period.
  7. After making changes to your credit card features, tap Save.
  8. Wait for the notification to confirm the changes.
