CoinGecko is a website (with a mobile app) that collects and compiles information on the performance of different cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This Singapore-based company was founded in 2014 by TM Lee, its Chief Executive Officer, and Bobby Ong, its Chief Operating Officer.

Through its real-time data feeds, CoinGecko provides its users with price information, price fluctuations, and trading volume of different crypto assets. It also ranks such assets by market capitalization.

Simply put, CoinGecko works like a stock ticker.[1] So if you want to monitor the changes in the pricing of your crypto, compare exchange rates, or check the value of a coin in your fiat currency (e.g., PHP or USD), you can always use this platform.

If you want to learn how to use CoinGecko app on mobile, you can download its app version from the App Store or Google Play.

What are the Coins that CoinGecko Tracks?

CoinGecko prides itself on being the world’s largest independent crypto data aggregator. It currently tracks more than 13,000 crypto assets across over 500 exchanges globally.[2]

How to Use CoinGecko App or Website

CoinGecko is easy to use. It’s very intuitive, so you can get the hang of it after spending enough time on the website. If you want to get a head start on how to use CoinGecko, here’s a no-nonsense walkthrough of the platform.

Start with the Homepage

how to use coingecko - start with homepage

On CoinGecko’s homepage,[3] you’ll see the essentials right away. It displays the top 100 cryptocurrencies, their prices, and their fluctuations in one hour, the last 24 hours, and the last seven days. To help you visualize the price fluctuations of the coins, each cryptocurrency has a small line graph under the “Last 7 Days” tab.

As mentioned, CoinGecko ranks the cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. For starters, market capitalization or market cap is the total value of a certain coin. This is calculated by multiplying the coin’s current price by the circulating supply.

The homepage also lists the 24-hour volume of each coin. Under this tab, you’ll see the volume of each coin being traded in the last 24 hours across the exchanges tracked by CoinGecko.

Scroll down the homepage to see the page numbers that will lead you to the rest of the cryptocurrencies tracked by the platform. You’ll also see the trending coins at the moment.

Alternatively, you can use the search bar found at the top of the homepage to quickly find a crypto and its information.

Check the Coin Page

Learning how to use CoinGecko includes learning how to navigate the coin pages. Simply put, a coin page contains all the important information about a particular crypto. Think of it as the coin’s profile.

You can access the coin page by clicking the crypto of your choice on the list found on the homepage. You can also get to a coin page by using the CoinGecko search bar.

A coin page is divided into two sections: the upper part and the lower part.

Upper Part

The upper part of the coin page lists the coin’s market cap, 24-hour trading volume, circulating supply, total supply, and maximum supply. On the right side of the coin page’s upper part, you'll see the coin’s official website, social media links, and applicable wallets.

You’ll also find a currency converter in this section. Just input a specific number of coins and choose the crypto or fiat currency you want them to be converted to.

Lower Part

  • Chart – This provides an expanded view of the coin’s performance chart.
  • Historical Data – You can view and export data on the coin’s historical prices.
  • Social – This shows the followers and key metrics of the coin’s social media pages
  • Developer – This provides you with details of the coin developer’s activities
