Need to apply for a credit card but hate to wait in line at the bank? Take the faster and easier route: online application.
Several banks in the Philippines such as BDO accept credit card applications that are filed online. This option is ideal for busy Filipino professionals who can’t apply personally during banking hours and those who don’t want to go through the stress and boredom of standing in line.
Here are some tips to ensure faster approval and the steps for BDO credit card online application.
Important things to remember before you apply
To speed up the processing of your application and increase your chance of getting approved, keep these things in mind before you apply for a BDO credit card:
Make sure you meet the basic eligibility requirements
BDO requires credit card applicants to meet certain qualifications. Meeting all of them assures the bank that you can pay off your monthly balances. If you fail to meet just one basic requirement, your application might get declined.
So be sure you meet all these BDO credit card requirements:
Age: 21 to 70 years old
Citizenship: Filipino or foreigner who has lived in the Philippines for the past 2 years
Contact information: at least one landline phone or a postpaid mobile phone
Location: home or office address near a BDO branch
Employment: regular employee or self-employed individual whose business has been operating for at least 2 years
Minimum gross annual income:
PHP 180,000 (PHP 15,000 monthly) – Bench/Forever 21/ShopMore and Standard MasterCard, Visa Classic, and JCB Lucky Cat credit cards
PHP 420,000 (PHP 35,000 monthly) – for Gold credit cards and American Express Cashback credit card
PHP 480,000 (PHP 40,000 monthly) – American Express credit card
PHP 1 million (PHP 83,333 monthly) – Titanium MasterCard
PHP 1.2 million (PHP 100,000 monthly) – Platinum MasterCard, Visa Platinum, Diamond UnionPay,and Cathay Pacific American Express credit card
PHP 1.8 million (PHP 150,000 monthly) – American Express Platinum credit card
Get all your supporting documents ready
When applying for a BDO credit card online, you’ll be asked to upload scanned copies or images of your documents on the bank’s online application facility. Prepare all the required documents for your credit card application:
For regular employees: latest full-month’s payslips, certificate of employment (including status, service tenure, and compensation breakdown), latest two credit card statements (for existing cardholders), or latest postpaid mobile phone statement of account (for first-time credit card applicants)
For self-employed individuals: Audited Financial Statements for at least 2 years and registration of business name with the DTI or SEC
Choose the best BDO credit card for you.
Many credit card applications get declined because of a wrong choice of credit card. Case in point: applying for a BDO Gold MasterCard (with a minimum gross income requirement of PHP 35,000 monthly) when your payslips show that you’re earning only PHP 15,000 monthly.
Check the features of each BDO credit card you’re considering, especially the annual fees and interest rates. Choose a credit card that you can afford and won’t get you broke in a matter of months.
Do you often buy groceries, travel, dine, or shop online? Aside from your income and budget, consider also your lifestyle and needs, as these will determine how you’ll use your credit card for.
Comparing BDO credit cards is a crucial step before you start applying for one. If you’re too busy to do your own research, save time and raise your chance of approval by using a credit card comparison tool.
In just a few clicks, the online tool can show you the best options based on your preferences such as low annual fees, low-interest rates, highest rewards, and cards with cashback rebates.
