If you’ve saved up a lot of Security Bank credit card points, you might be wondering if this is the right time to redeem a reward or if you should save those points for bigger rewards in the future.

To help you decide, here’s a helpful guide to the bank’s rewards program and what you can do with your Security Bank credit card points.

What is the Security Bank Credit Card Rewards Program?

Redeemable Rewards With Your Security Bank Credit Card Points

Aside from the many Security Bank credit card benefits, these rewards make the bank’s cards even more appealing:

🎁 Electronic Gift Certificates

One of the most popular rewards you can redeem with your Security Bank credit card points is an e-gift certificate. Various e-GCs for gadgets, appliances, dining, shopping, and other lifestyle items are up for grabs.

To redeem the best rewards, you must accumulate at least 10,000 points. Still, there are other rewards you can redeem for less than 5,000 points.

🎁 Air Miles

Some people apply for credit cards just to earn this particular reward. And why not when your credit card points can make it possible for you to fly to a fabulous destination for free?

🎁 Cash Waivers

Annual fees can cost a lot, especially if you own a premium card or fund supplementary cards for your family members. But if you rack up enough points, you can redeem cash waivers to pay off your annual fees.

You need around 42,000 points to redeem a cash waiver reward if you have a Gold Mastercard. For Platinum cardholders, you must accumulate approximately 67,000 points. World Mastercard cardholders need about 84,000 points to redeem an annual fee waiver.

🎁 Charity Rewards

Prefer to share your rewards than enjoy them yourself? Through charity rewards, you can donate to the Philippine Red Cross, Bantay Bata 163, World Vision, and SB Foundation. You only need around 1,700 points to start donating.

How to Earn Points with Your Security Bank Credit Card

Principal and supplementary credit cards can earn rewards points. However, note that the Complete Cashback Mastercard is not eligible for the Credit Card Rewards program.

Earn points for every ₱20 qualified transaction. The number of points earned will depend on the Security Bank credit card you have.

For example, the Gold Mastercard earns 1 rewards point for every ₱20 spent, the Platinum Mastercard earns 2 rewards points, and the World Mastercard earns 3 rewards points. Security Bank credit cards with dual currency billing also earn points for every US$1 spent on qualified transactions.

Tips to Earn Security Bank Credit Card Points Faster

There’s no magical way to earn hundreds of thousands of credit card points overnight. But these tips can help you earn rewards points faster.

✅ Use Your Credit Card Frequently

If you don’t swipe, you can’t earn points―it’s as simple as that. But that doesn’t mean you should use your credit card indiscriminately.

Instead of paying with cash or a debit card, use your credit card, especially when there's no extra fee for using one. Small everyday purchases, when accumulated, can amount to big credit card points and exciting rewards.

But make sure to pay everything off on your due date to maximize your credit card spending.

✅ Charge Big Expenses

Upgrading your furniture or appliances? Planning an overseas trip with the family? Buy your airline tickets and other big-ticket items using your Security Bank credit card to earn instant and big rewards points. Aside from installment options and affordable interest rates, you earn points for every ₱20 spent.

✅ Swipe for Your Loved Ones

Offer to pay for your family members' purchases using your credit card. Just make sure they can pay you back!

In turn, you earn reward points from the transaction. You may even get to avail of exclusive Security Bank deals or discounts for eligible transactions at participating merchants.

✅ Pay for Work Expenses

If you have work expenses that you need to pay and then reimburse later, charge them to your credit card for points. These may include airfare and hotel accommodations during business trips, Grab rides to the office, team lunches or dinners, and productivity tools and subscriptions, just to name a few.

Make sure to keep the receipts and booking confirmations. Provide a copy of your credit card billing for hassle-free reimbursement.

Final Thoughts

Saving up enough Security Bank credit card points may seem like a daunting task. But if you use your credit card for all your essential and lifestyle spending, you’ll soon meet the minimum number of credit card points.

Security Bank reward points are non-expiring, so you can keep using your card and accumulating points to redeem your desired reward.
