The back-to-back long weekends are just around the corner. You know what that means? Travel season!

Aside from booking your plane tickets and accommodations, you should also get travel insurance from providers like Oona. To learn more about this insurance provider and its travel policies, check out our Oona travel insurance review below.

What Is Oona Travel Insurance?

oona travel insurance review - what is oona

To kickstart this Oona travel insurance review, let’s first look at Oona Insurance as a whole. Formerly known as MAPFRE Insular, the rebranded Oona Insurance Philippines is wholly owned by Oona Philippines Holdings Corporation (OPHC), a trusted provider of non-life and personal accident insurance products.

A relative newcomer in the market, OPHC is an indirect subsidiary of Oona Holdings Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, which is backed by Warburg Pincus, a global private equity firm in New York City. Aside from the Philippines, Oona Insurance has made its mark in Indonesia—and between the two countries, Oona boasts a 99% claims settlement, over 5,000 network garages, and over 1.2 million satisfied customers overall![1]

Oona Insurance Corporation’s ultimate goal is to be one of Southeast Asia’s top five insurance providers, and it plans to do so by adopting digital solutions and introducing new insurance products, including travel insurance. In terms of legitimacy, Oona Insurance Philippines can go toe to toe with established insurance providers in the country.

For Oona’s domestic travel insurance, you will only be covered for up to 90 consecutive travel days per trip (i.e., two-way continuous trip or two-way annual multi-trip) if you avail of the Individual or Family package. Also, your regular price premium can only insure travelers aged 18 to 64 years old.

For travelers beyond 65 years old, here is a quick guide to surcharges:

  • 65 to 70 years old - 50% premium surcharge
  • 71 to 75 years old - 100% premium surcharge

For Oona’s international travel insurance, your maximum period of coverage varies depending on your destination and age. See the matrix below for reference:
