UnionBank credit cards are among the most popular spending tools out there. Aside from convenience, you also enjoy exclusive privileges, such as free travel insurance and discounts, depending on your card.

Plus, UnionBank credit cards make spending rewarding. Every swipe or tap of your card can earn points, which you can then use to enjoy various perks.

If you’re new to the UnionBank credit card rewards points program, check out this handy guide.

What are UnionBank Credit Card Rewards Points?

unionbank credit card rewards points

UnionBank defines rewards points as a point earned by a client when participating in the rewards program using a credit card. In simpler terms, you earn points by spending using your UnionBank credit card.

However, keep in mind that you can only earn points when making qualified purchases or transactions at the bank’s partner shops and establishments.

👉 Do UnionBank Credit Card Rewards Points Expire?

No, they don’t, as long as the account remains current and active. However, this rule doesn’t apply to certain cards, such as the UnionBank Miles+ Regular or Platinum Credit Card, whose points expire after five years.

Also, keep in mind that rewards points or miles are non-transferable.

Types of Rewards You Can Redeem With Your UnionBank Credit Card

Each reward is equivalent to a specific number of points. Once you have enough, you can convert them into the following rewards:

🎁 Air Miles

Are you a jet-setter looking to save money on flights? Convert your UnionBank credit card rewards points into PAL Mabuhay Miles. This rewards scheme applies to the following credit cards:

  • UnionBank Platinum Visa
  • UnionBank Miles+ Platinum Visa

🎁 Annual Fee Waiver

Get your annual fee waived for one less expense to worry about!

🎁 Gift Certificates

Save up your points to receive gift certificates from UnionBank’s partner merchants. Currently, you can redeem gift passes from the following brands:

  • SM
  • Rustan’s
  • The North Face
  • Burgoo (only applicable to Burgoo credit cardholders)

🎁 Petron e-Fuel Card Load

Your UnionBank credit card points also entitle you to a Petron e-Fuel Card[1] load. Usually, the load will be transferred to your Petron e-Fuel card within seven to 10 banking days from the redemption date.

Note: The information above is based on UnionBank’s rewards scheme as of 2023. If you want to learn more or see the updated list, contact UnionBank via their official channels.

How to Earn UnionBank Credit Card Rewards Points Faster

unionbank credit card rewards points - how to earn points faster

Make the most of your credit card by earning points fast. Here are some tips and hacks to try:

✔️ Choose a Credit Card Designed for Fast Point Accumulation

The type of credit card you get will determine how fast you’ll earn points. You can quickly amass points if the spending requirement is low (e.g., ₱25 = 1 point).

On the other hand, some credit cards require you to spend at least ₱200 and above to get a point. In this regard, it would be wise to get a card with a points multiplier.

✔️ Avail of a Credit Card Welcome Gift

A lot of banks offer new cardholders welcome gifts, including rewards points. To get those points, you need to meet the spending requirement within the specified period after card activation.

✔️ Use Your Credit Card Regularly for Daily Expenses

If you use your credit card for everyday expenses, such as groceries and car fuel, you’ll earn UnionBank points in no time. You may even offer to use your credit card to pay for your family’s purchases.

However, don't depend too heavily on credit cards. Before you swipe, make sure you have enough funds to actually pay for the purchase.

✔️ Buy Big-Ticket Items with Your Credit Card

The more expensive an item, the more credit card points you earn. As such, it makes sense to buy an appliance or a gadget if you want to earn more points. On top of that, you may also be able to avail of special discounts at UnionBank’s partner establishments or enjoy 0% interest on installments.

✔️ Book Trips with Your Credit Card

Flights are another big-ticket purchase. Book them using your credit card to earn points. While you’re at it, check if your UnionBank credit card comes with a free travel insurance policy.

✔️ Use Your Credit Card Abroad

Certain cards earn more points for purchases made abroad. As such, you may want to use your card to settle such transactions, from meals to souvenir shopping.
