Planning a South Korea trip can be exciting — until you start building your visa application checklist. Between your passport, Certificate of Employment, financial documents, and other requirements, the paperwork can feel like another project on top of planning your itinerary.

The good news? If you hold a qualifying credit card from certain banks, you may be eligible for Korea's simplified visa application process. Under the current program, qualified primary cardholders can be exempt from submitting certain financial documents, while other visa requirements still apply.

Here's what Filipino credit cardholders need to know before applying.

What is the Simplified Korean Visa Application?

The simplified Korean visa application is a special document-relief program for eligible travelers. Through this, qualified applicants are exempt from submitting financial proof documents, such as a bank certificate, bank statement, and ITR. The program is available to the following:

  • Elected politicians
  • Government officials
  • Professional license holders
  • Credit card holders

However, "simplified" doesn't mean "automatic" or "document-free." You’ll still need to submit the other required visa documents and meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

The current simplification is scheduled to run until December 31, 2026. Since visa policies and processing times can change, always check the latest guidance from the Korean Embassy and Korean Visa Application Center (KVAC) before submitting.

What Financial Documents Can You Skip?

Eligible credit cardholders can skip three types of financial proof under the simplified program:

These exemptions apply to qualified primary cardholders and covered immediate family members.

What Documents Do You Still Need for the Simplified Korean Visa Application?

Even with the financial-document exemption, you still need to complete the rest of your visa application. For a qualified credit cardholder, the simplified-program documents include:

  • Certificate of employment (original)
  • Copy of credit card(front only with complete information)
  • Copy of latest 3 months' credit card account Monthly Billing Statements
  • Valid passport
  • Visa application form
  • Passport-sized photo
  • Proof of relationship for eligible family members applying under your qualification

The key takeaway: you can skip certain financial documents, but you cannot skip or expedite the visa application itself.

How to Apply for a Korean Visa Using Your Credit Card

Applying under the simplified route mainly involves preparing the right documents before submission. Start by confirming that your card qualifies, then prepare the visa requirements for a hassle-free application experience.

1. Check if your credit card is eligible

First, confirm that you're the primary cardholder of an eligible credit card. Supplementary cardholders are excluded from the credit-card qualification.

2. Prepare a copy of your credit card

The Embassy requires a copy of the front of the credit card with complete information. Do not provide card details beyond what the application requires.

3. Download your latest three months of credit card statements

Prepare copies of your latest three months of credit card account monthly billing statements.

4. Get your Certificate of Employment

If you're employed, prepare the original Certificate of Employment as required. Make sure your COE contains the following information:

  • Date hired
  • Compensation or salary details
  • Company name and office address
  • HR landline number or alternative reachable contact info
  • HR email address

5. Prepare your other visa documents

Complete your visa application form and prepare your passport, photo, and any other documents applicable to your circumstances. If you're applying with family, prepare proof of your relationship as well.

6. Submit your application

Filipino applicants for a tourist visa can submit their application through the KVAC or accredited travel agencies as endorsed by the Korean Embassy. The Embassy has also allowed tourist visa applications to be submitted by mail through its designated courier arrangement, subject to the applicable rules.

Before submitting, double-check your documents against the latest KVAC and Embassy instructions. Visa requirements can change, so make sure to check if there are announcements related to visa applications.

7. Track your application

Once your application is submitted, monitor the status and wait for notification from KVAC. You can check the status of your application on the Kore Visa Portal.

As of June 15, 2026, the standard processing period for short-term visit (C-3) visas is 10 working days, while express applications take 5 working days. Processing periods can still change depending on application volume and official announcements.

8. Check and download your Visa Grant Notice

Korea's visa system has moved to a digital Visa Grant Notice. Once your visa is issued, check the result through the Korea Visa Portal and download or print the notice as instructed.

Does Having an Eligible Credit Card Guarantee Visa Approval?

No. Having an eligible credit card only qualifies you for the simplified document process; it does not guarantee that your Korean visa will be approved. The simplified program reduces certain financial-document requirements, but the Korean authorities still evaluate the visa application and its other requirements.

Think of your credit card as a way to simplify the paperwork — not as a shortcut to approval.

Can My Family Use My Credit Card for the Simplified Application?

Yes, eligible immediate family members of a qualified primary credit cardholder may also benefit from the simplified financial-document requirements. However, they don't become eligible simply because they physically use or possess your card; they must qualify as an immediate family member covered by the program and provide proof of relationship.

The covered family members include:

  • Parents
  • Spouse
  • Minor children
  • Adult children who can prove they are students
  • Spouse's parents

This can make planning a family trip to Korea a little less paperwork-heavy — but each applicant still needs to meet the applicable visa requirements.

Make Your Korea Trip Plans a Reality with the Simplified Application Process

A Korea trip can be a major milestone, whether you're finally visiting Seoul after years of saving, taking your parents on their first overseas vacation, or checking Nami Island off your travel bucket list. If you're a qualified primary cardholder of a participating credit card, the simplified Korean visa application can make one part of the journey easier. You may be able to skip financial proof documents, while still preparing other required documents.

Since visa requirements and processing times may change, check the latest guidance from the Korean Embassy and KVAC before applying. With your documents prepared, you can spend less time worrying about paperwork and more time planning your Korean adventure.
