More about HSBC
Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) is one of the leading retail banks worldwide. It is a British multinational banking and financial services company, with its headquarters in London. It is the world's fourth largest bank by total assets, currently numbering at US$2.67 trillion. Its present form was conceived in 1991, but its original form - The Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank - was created in 1865 by Scotsman Sir Thomas Sutherland in the British colony of Hong Kong. It would be formally incorporated the following year. Upon the establishment of HSBC Holdings PLC in 1991, the company made several moves to gain a major foothold in the UK, and on its acquisition of Midland Bank in 1992, it did so. One such stipulation in the takeover was that HSBC would be required to relocate its world headquarters from Hong Kong to London. It did so in 1993 while retaining its foothold in much of Asia. HSBC has four main services: Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Global Banking and Markets, and Global Private Banking which covers 71 countries and territories in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, North America and Latin America. In the Philippines, HSBC has been doing business in the country for the past 140 years. Its branches are located in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. Its success has also made it a magnet for controversy across the world. In spite of which, the local subsidiary remains steadfast in its commitment to help local businesses grow, in addition to its already robust roster of banking services.
